Course Content: 1.00 Understand communication skills and customer relations. 1.01 Apply verbal skills to obtain and convey information. 8/28/17- Today we established a seating chart by having the students practice their communication skills and put themselves in alphabetical order. We went over the syllabus and classroom procedures. We also discussed the opportunity for students in this class to join DECA. 8/29/17- Today we completed a VARK assessment to determine the students interests. We also completed a multiple intelligences assessment through Edutopia to help the students understand their preferences and get to know the preferences of other students. 8/30/17- Today we completed a powerpoint presentation that answered 10 questions about the student. The students were instructed to make the powerpoints creative and express their personality. This gave me a chance to see how the students used powerpoint and how they approached a creative assignment. 8/31/17- Today we presented the powerpoint presentations to the class. 9/1/17- Today we learned about communication styles, took notes on 1.01 and completed activities to reinforce what we learned about communication. The students took assessments to determine their own communication style and completed a gallery walk to brainstorm ways to communicate with different styles. 9/5/17- Today we continued with 1.01 and completed activities to support the second half of the notes for 1.01. 9/6/17- Today we did a think-pair-share on ideas to defend ideas objectively. We also completed a graphic organizer on barriers to good communication and discussed strategies to overcome the barriers. We also read an article on selling ideas. 9/7/17- Today we worked on a project to present an idea or opinion to the class. The students will do a 2 minute presentation to sell the class on their idea or opinion. The students also began work on a paper to summarize what they have learned about good communication and defending their ideas. 9/8/17- Today we worked on the CO-25 LAP by reviewing the powerpoint and handout. We then completed the CO-25 learning guides and posttest. CO-25 covers good presentation skills. 9/11/17- Today we presented the defend your ideas presentations. 9/12/17- Today we did a group discussions pair and share to work on our group communication skills. 1.02 Record information to maintain and present a report of business activity. 9/13/17- Today we learned Cornell note taking. This lesson is meant to help students record information efficiently. 9/14/17- Today we learned ways to organize information and completed a graphic organizer to outline these methods. 9/15/17- Today we learned about graphic aids in presenting information and completed a webquest to practice these skills. 1.03 Write internal and external business correspondence to convey and obtain information effectively. 9/18/17- Today we learned about the different methods of business communication and completed a 5 Cs of communication assignment. 9/19/17- Today we learned about ways to choose the correct business communication methods to convey a message. We also edited a business letter. We will have a quiz on 1.01 and 1.02 tomorrow. 1.04 Foster positive relationships with customers to enhance company image. 9/20/17- Today we took a quiz on 1.01 and 1.02. We will have a quiz on 1.03 on Thursday and a quiz on all of unit 1 on Friday. After the quiz today, we covered revising and editing correspondence and sending emails. We also went over the outline for 1.04. 9/21/17- Teacher Workday 9/22/17- Today we started 1.04 and discussed customer service and defined great customer service. We completed a group discussion on customer service after watching a video about customer service. 9/25/17- Today we continued discussing customer service by watching a Fred Factor video and then working in groups to brainstorm ideas for improving customer service even when it seems great. The groups then shared their ideas with the class. 9/26/17- Today we took a quiz covering all of unit 1. We also began a research project by selecting a topic and learning about ways to select topics. 2.00 Understand information management. 2.01 Use information literacy skills to increase workplace efficiency and effectiveness.
