Course Content: 1.00 Understand communication skills and customer relations. 1.01 Apply verbal skills to obtain and convey information. 1/22/19- Today we established a seating chart by having the students practice their communication skills and put themselves in alphabetical order. We went over the syllabus and classroom procedures. We also discussed the opportunity for students in this class to join DECA. 1/23/19- Today we completed a VARK assessment to determine the students interests. We also completed a multiple intelligences assessment through Edutopia to help the students understand their preferences and get to know the preferences of other students. We completed a powerpoint presentation that answered 10 questions about the student. The students were instructed to make the powerpoints creative and express their personality. This gave me a chance to see how the students used powerpoint and how they approached a creative assignment. 1/24/19- Today we presented the powerpoint presentations to the class. 1/25/19- Today we learned about communication styles, took notes on 1.01 and completed activities to reinforce what we learned about communication. The students took assessments to determine their own communication style and completed a gallery walk to brainstorm ways to communicate with different styles. 1/28/19- Today we continued with 1.01 and completed activities to support the second half of the notes for 1.01. 1/29/19- Today we did a think-pair-share on ideas to defend ideas objectively. We also completed a graphic organizer on barriers to good communication and discussed strategies to overcome the barriers. We also read an article on selling ideas. 1/30/19- Today we worked on a project to present an idea or opinion to the class. The students will do a 2 minute presentation to sell the class on their idea or opinion. The students also began work on a paper to summarize what they have learned about good communication and defending their ideas. 1/31/19- Today we worked on the CO-25 LAP by reviewing the powerpoint and handout. We then completed the CO-25 learning guides and posttest. CO-25 covers good presentation skills. 2/1/19- Today we presented the defend your ideas presentations. 2/4/19- Today we did a group discussions pair and share to work on our group communication skills. 1.02 Record information to maintain and present a report of business activity. 2/5/19- Today we learned Cornell note taking. This lesson is meant to help students record information efficiently. 2/12/18- Today we learned ways to organize information and completed a graphic organizer to outline these methods. 9/6/19- Today we learned about graphic aids in presenting information and completed a webquest to practice these skills. 1.03 Write internal and external business correspondence to convey and obtain information effectively. 2/7/19- Today we learned about the different methods of business communication and completed a 5 Cs of communication assignment. 2/8/19- Today we learned about ways to choose the correct business communication methods to convey a message. We also edited a business letter. 1.04 Foster positive relationships with customers to enhance company image. 2/11/19- Today we started 1.04 and discussed customer service and defined great customer service. We completed a group discussion on customer service after watching a video about customer service. 2/12/19- Today we took the 1.03 Quiz and continued studying customer service by completing the CR-001 LAP activities. 2/13/19- Today we continued discussing customer service by watching a Fred Factor video and then working in groups to brainstorm ideas for improving customer service even when it seems great. The groups then shared their ideas with the class. 2/14/19- Today we completed the LAP activities learning to deal with difficult customers. 2/15/19- Today we continued with the activities to learn about customer service and reviewed for the Unit 1 Test. 2/19/19- Today we took a Test covering all of unit 1. We also began a research project by selecting a topic and learning about ways to select topics. 2.00 Understand information management. 2.01 Use information literacy skills to increase workplace efficiency and effectiveness. 2/20/19- Today we continued with selecting a topic and the basic research necessary to understand a topic. We watched videos and completed a practice activity to identify primary and secondary information. 2/21/19- Today we took notes on information literacy skills and completed the information literacy skills project step 3. 2/22/19- Today we continued with the information literacy skills project step 4 to evaluate sources and writing three paragraphs to get the paper started . 2/25/19- Today we took notes on news and views. 2/26/19- Today we continued with the information literacy skills project step 5 by evaluating the reliability of sources . 2.02 Acquire a foundational knowledge of information management to understand its nature and scope. 2/27/19- Today we completed the objective 2.01 study guide, read an article on data and information management and completed an assignment to describe ways to avoid information management risks. 2/28/19- Today we reviewed for the Unit 2 Test tomorrow by playing a vocabulary and example game. We took the Unit 2 Quiz. 3/4/19- Today we continued with the 7 steps to setting goals with steps 4 and 5. 3/5/19- Today we continued with the 7 steps to setting goals with steps 6 and 7. 3.02 Utilize critical-thinking skills to determine best options/outcomes. 3/6/19- Today we completed the PD-016 LAP activities on setting goals. 3/7/19- Today we completed the objective 3.01 Quiz, went over the objective 3.02 outline to get started with 3.02 and completed the best innovations activity by selecting from a list of the best innovations in the last few years and analyzing their impact. 3/8/19- Today we took notes on the decision making powerpoint, went over the objective 3.02 key terms and completed an assignment using the steps in the decision making process. 3/11/19- Today we began presentations of the decision making assignment from yesterday. We also completed the objective 3.02 study guide. We also completed a couple of activities using the "Weigh your options" decision making LAP. 3/12/19- Today we took the 3.02 Quiz and finished the presentations of the decision making assignment. 4.00 Understand business operations management. 4.01 Adhere to health and safety regulations to support a safe work environment. 3/13/19- Today we had an introduction to OSHA and learned to recognize hazards in the workplace by completing a recognition group activity. 3/14/19- Today we began learning about employment law and workers' rights. We took notes on the employment law powerpoint and watched a video explaining the history of workers' rights. 3/15/19- Today we completed the Unit 3 study guide to prepare for the Unit 3 Test tomorrow. 3/18/19- Today we took the Unit 3 Test. We also completed an activity analyzing the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire from 1911 and compared it to the more recent workplace tragedy in Hamlet, NC. 4.02 Implement purchasing activities to obtain business supplies, equipment and services. 3/19/19- Today we began learning about the purchasing process. We also learned how to complete a purchase order. We went over the Purchase order process and reviewed the 4.02 outline. We also went over the 4.02 Powerpoint. 3/20/19- Today we completed an activity to create a purchasing plan for the school cafeteria and write POs for all of the needed supplies. 4.03 Understand production’s role and function in business to recognize its need in an organization. 3/21/19- Today we are taking notes on the 4.03 powerpoint. We completed an activity exploring the production process and learning about the history of the assembly line. 3/22/19- Today we completed a reflection on the Unit 3 Test. 3/25/19- Today we completed a case study on Henry Ford and the innovations he brought to mass production. 3/26/19- Today we went back and completed the study guides and reviewed the vocabulary for Unit 4. We also completed the OP-017 LAP activities. 5.00 Understand economics. 5.01 Understand fundamental economic concepts to obtain a foundation for employment in business. 3/27/19- Today we completed the Unit 4 Test and began Unit 5. 3/28/19- Today we began objective 5.01 to understand fundamental economic concepts. We completed several activities to learn the concepts of 5.01 and watched a "How it's made video to answer discussion questions. 4/1/19- Today we completed more activities to build a foundation of knowledge about economic concepts by reading from a LAP and answering discussion questions. we completed a case study on the command/demand market economy by studying a case from history. 4/2/19- Today we continued with activities for objective 5.01 including an activity to analyze an economic case study. 4/3/19- Today we took notes on the 3 economic questions Powerpoint and completed a small group activity to discuss the concepts learned in the Powerpoint. We also completed the EC-011 LAP activities. 4/4/19- Today we completed an activity to determine relative prices and completed the EC-012 activities.
5.02 Understand economic systems to be able to recognize the environments in which businesses function. 4/5/19- Today we took the objective 5.01 test. We began objective 5.02 by discussing the types of economic systems and completing an economic systems activity. 4/8/19- Today we discussed private enterprise and completed an activity to help understand private enterprise in our economy. 4/9/19- Today we continued our learning activities for private enterprise by learning about profit and how to calculate profit. 4/10/19- Today we completed an activity to simulate making a profit and reviewed economic systems and private enterprise. 4/11/19- Today we learned about business risks and completed an activity to categorize business risk. 4/12/19- Today we learned about market structures and competition. We learned about monopolies, oligopolies and Pure Competition.
5.03 Understand the nature of business to show its contributions to society. 4/23/19- Today we began objective 5.03 to learn about business contributions to society. We went over the outline for objective 5.03, covered the vocabulary for the objective and took notes on business ethics. 4/24/19- Today we continued with 5.03 by competing a business and society activity and discussing business activities. 4/25/19- Today we began a project to explore business environments. This project requires some research and analysis of global business environments. 4/26/19- Today we began a group project to examine business ethics. The case studies were assigned to groups to create a presentation to the class with their findings. The class will evaluate each case and record their own opinions in an individual assignment. 4/29/19- Today we presented the business ethics case studies and the students completed their evaluations of each case. 4/30/19- Today we learned about organizational design. We learned the difference between functional, divisional and matrix organizations by doing research on a company we like.
5.04 Acquire knowledge of the impact of government on business activities to make informed economic decisions. 5/1/19- Today we began learning about the government and the economy by taking notes on 5.04 and exploring examples from history. 5/2/19- Today we conducted research to learn how government spending has impacted the economy throughout history. 5.05 Analyze cost/profit relationships to guide business decision making. 5/3/19- Today we reviewed the profit powerpoint and completed two learning guide activities on the relationship between cost and profit. 6.00 Understand financial analysis. 6.01 Acquire a foundational knowledge of accounting to understand its nature and scope. 5/6/19- Today we took the unit 5.00 quiz and began learning about accounting. We discussed the language of accounting and its importance in business. 5/7/19- Today we worked on an assignment to calculate a profit and loss using revenue and expenses. 6.02 Acquire a foundational knowledge of finance to understand its nature and scope. 5/9/19- Today we began learning about the role of finance in business. We completed and activity to perform the cash conversion cycle. 5/10/19- Today we continued with the nature and scope of finance by learning about working capital and return of capital. 5/13/19- Today we reviewed the accounting and finance information. We also played a cool math game where the students ran a virtual coffee stand trying to make a profit. 7.00 Understand marketing and business management. 7.01 Understand marketing’s role and function in business to facilitate economic exchanges with customers. 5/14/19- Today we took the unit 6.00 Test and began learning about the role of marketing and its impact on business. 5/15/19- Today we completed an activity to dig deeper into the marketing concept and reviewed examples of the 4 Ps. 7.02 Apply knowledge of business ownership to establish and continue business operations. 5/16/19- Today we learned about the different types of business entities. 5/17/19- Today we completed a franchise opportunity activity to learn more about business formation. 7.03 Recognize management’s role to understand its contribution to business success. 5/20/19- Today we began learning about business management. 5/21/19- Today we completed an activity to learn more about the different levels of management in an organization and reviewed Standard 7.00. 5/22/19- Today we took the standard 7.00 test and began reviewing standard 1.00 for the NC final. 5/23/19- Today we reviewed standard 1.00 for the NC final exam. 5/24/19- Today we reviewed standard 2.00 for the NC final exam. 5/28/19- Today we reviewed standard 3.00 for the NC final exam. 5/29/19- Today we reviewed standard 4.00 for the NC final exam. 5/30/19- Today we reviewed standard 5.00 for the NC final exam. 5/31/19- Today we reviewed standard 6.00 for the NC final exam. 6/3/19- Today we reviewed for the NC final exam. 6/4/19- Today we reviewed for the NC final exam.
